Marcela Valente is a Buenos Aires-based writer for the Spanish newspaper El Correo de Bilbao and is a regular contributor with the Argentine newspaper Ámbito.
For 25 years, she was a correspondent for the international news agency Inter Press Service (IPS), covering many key issues related to development with an environmental and gender perspective. She also covers Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay for the Spanish newspaper El Correo de Bilbao and is a regular contributor with the Argentine newspaper Ámbito.
Marcela attended the Seminar on Poverty and Democracy organized by the Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2000. She also attended the International Seminar on Journalism and Sustainable Development at the Ministerial Environment Forum of the UNEP in Bali, Indonesia, in 2011.
Through a partnership between IPS and Germany’s Cooperation Ministry, Marcela trained journalists in Costa Rica, Germany and Denmark to cover the UN World Summit on Social Development in 1995. She also has given workshops on environmental journalism in Argentina with the Natural Patagonia Foundation.
Marcela teaches journalism and the environment at the National University of La Plata, Buenos Aires.
