Imelda Visaya Abano
Imelda Visaya Abano is the founder and president of the Philippine Network of Environmental Journalists.
Imelda has been covering climate change, disaster and other environmental issues in the Philippines and throughout Asia for 15 years. She is the first Filipino to receive the Asian Development Bank’s Developing Asia Journalist of the Year Award, which she won in 2009 for her climate change story “Scorched Earth.” She also is the first Filipino journalist to receive the prestigious United Nations Correspondents Association Award for excellence in reporting on environment, humanitarian and development affairs.
Imelda is on the board of directors of the U. S.-based Society of Environmental Journalists.
